Those Aspen Trees on Coal Bank Pass

Anyone who has lived or visited southwest Colorado in the fall knows exactly what I’m talking about when I refer to the aspen trees on Coal Bank Pass. We’re blown away by the intensity of the yellow hillsides, but this RED crop of aspen compel you to pull over and stand in awe. It’s incredibly rare to NOT see anyone in this pull off. The sudden intensity of red literally stops me in my tracks every single time. Which is why I keep painting them, year after year. I saw them on Tuesday and once again, I was so excited to see them. The return of autumn makes me giddy, and I can’t wait to see what paintings come from my visit this year.
