Frequently asked questions.
About the Art
What mediums do you work in?
I work mainly in soft pastels, a medium that brings out vibrant color and texture in my landscapes. Over the years, I’ve also explored acrylics, watercolor, oils, and colored pencils, but pastels are my current favorite for capturing light and movement.
How long does it take to create a painting?
A brilliant artist friend told me that the answer to this question is how old you are - so it’s taken me 50 years to create that painting for you. All of my education, practice, trial and error, adventures, and experiences led to that moment in time where I was able to paint that piece.
Do you take custom commissions?
Yes! I love creating custom landscape paintings that capture your favorite places and memories. Email me to learn how to start your personalized artwork.
Can I request a painting of a specific place or memory?
Absolutely. Many clients ask me to create paintings of Colorado mountains, trails, or special travel adventures. I often paint scenery of where you got engaged, where you got married, or your favorite vacation spot. If you have a memory or photo you’d like me to turn into art, I’d love to bring it to life.
Prints & Products
What’s the difference between an original painting and a print?
An original pastel painting is one-of-a-kind, created directly by me. Prints are high-quality reproductions made from professional scans. I have a large format scanner that I use for all of my paintings. Original paintings have unique texture and depth, while prints are an affordable way to enjoy my art at home. My mini paintings are literally one-of-a-kind, as I don’t make prints or reproductions from them.
Are your prints limited edition or open edition?
Most of my art prints are open edition, which means they’re always available. That way, more people can enjoy Colorado-inspired artwork without worrying about it selling out. My prints are available as both museum-quality paper prints or canvas prints. All of my paintings are available as prints, but not all of them are listed for canvas prints. Contact me if there’s one that you’d like to see offered on canvas.
What sizes are available for prints?
Most of my art prints come in a range of sizes, from small to large. Product pages list the available options so you can find the perfect fit for your space.
Do you offer framing options?
Most of my paintings come with an option of framed or unframed. If they’re framed, then they’re available in the frame that I’ve placed them in. If you’d like a custom frame, you can buy the painting unframed and have it custom framed yourself. My art prints are unframed.

How long will it take to receive my order?
Most orders ship within 1–3 business days. Print-on-demand items take a while longer, usually up to one week. Keep in mind that orders might take longer around the holidays.

Pricing & Payment
What payment methods do you accept?
I accept all major credit cards, PayPal, and Venmo (for custom orders). There is also an AfterPay option, to let you pay over time.
Do you offer payment plans for larger pieces?
Yes! I offer payment plans for custom artwork so you can take home a painting you love without stress. AfterPay is also an option at check out to pay over time.
Caring for the Art
How should I care for my pastel paintings?
Pastel artwork should be framed under glass to protect it from dust and smudges. Handle gently and avoid touching the surface. If you must touch the painting, gently use the tips of your fingertips.
Will the colors fade over time?
Pastels are one of the most permanent art mediums. I use a light coating of fixative spray on my paintings. When properly framed and kept out of direct sunlight, the colors will stay vibrant for generations.
Personal & Fun
Where do you find inspiration for your work?
I find endless inspiration in the mountains, wildflowers, and big skies of Colorado. Many of my paintings are based on hikes, travels, and the beauty I see right outside my door.
What’s your favorite subject to paint?
I never get tired of painting clouds, aspen trees, reflections, sunsets, and alpine meadows—they always feel alive and full of movement. Really, I’m constantly inspired by all of nature!
Do you ever paint live at events or festivals?
Yes! A few times a year I do live painting at art shows and festivals. Check my Events page or sign up for my newsletter for updates.
Can I follow along with your creative process?
Definitely! I share works in progress, studio updates, and behind-the-scenes peeks on my blog and social media. It’s a fun way to see how each pastel painting comes to life.
Why “Duck Girl”?
Ah, the question on everyone’s mind! I’ve always loved ducks. When I graduated from college many moons ago, I had to get my first real email address. I kept typing options into Yahoo, and they said, “that’s taken but how about this?” - and thus, I became the Duck Girl. When we moved to Colorado in 2006 and I started my business, I wasn’t sure what to call it. I’m a graphic designer, an illustrator, and a painter; my husband said, “Just call it ART.” And thus, Duck Girl Art was born.
